The parents and leaders of 1st Jerrabomberra Scout Group deliver a vibrant scouting program to 80 youth members drawn from Jerrabomberra, Queanbeyan and South Canberra across the Joey, Cub, Scout and Venturer Sections.

In order to both expand the current program and the administrative support for the leaders, the following immediate vacancies exist:

Assistant Cub Scout Leader within the Kharniwarra Cub Scout Pack.

Duties to be confirmed.

Assistant Scout Leader within the Scout Troop (two positions).

With 23 members currently, the Troop expects that it will grow to around 37 members by December 2006. Therefore, their duties are to assist the two Scout Leaders in the delivery of the scout program for 11 to 15 year old youth members. The successful candidates will be required to become adult members of the Scouting Movement and to undergo appropriate training offered by the NSW Scouting Movement. Furthermore, they must be able to demonstrate a love for the outdoors as these positions require attendance at 8 to 12 weekend adventurous activities such as bushwalking, camping, abseiling and canoeing annually.

The ideal persons for these positions are:

1. A conscientious young adult 18 to 25 years old who has empathy with the adolescent's transition into adulthood and their search for independence, and who loves to get dirty! This position also offers the successful candidate a great opportunity to enhance their people skills and expertise in adventurous pursuits.

or

2. A parent wishing to learn more about their children and seeking to participate in a range of varied activities with their and other people's children. In other words, the Troop is looking to recruit a parent who really, really likes children!! Another prerequisite is that they are able to set aside regular and sufficient time out of their professional and family schedules to participate in most of the weekend activities and diligently attend the weekly meetings at the Hall.

The successful candidates do not have to possess any previous skills as a scout or proficiency with adventurous activities because the Group will provide them with appropriate training and a mentor to assist them in settling into these roles.

Assistant Joey Scout Leader within the Joey Mob.

The Group expects that the Mob will grow from 8 members currently to around 20 members by Term 3 this year. Their duties are therefore to assist the Joey Scout Leader in the delivery of a super-charged Joey program for 6 to 8 year youth members, and help prepare the kiddies for the big world out there. The successful candidate will be required to become an adult member of the Scouting Movement and to undergo appropriate training offered by the NSW Scouting Movement.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a love for the young child and an ability to be a mentor to them. They must also possess a willingness to work closely with the Joeys' parents as the Joeys progress through the award scheme.

The Group provides a uniform to every leader and happily pays for all training costs and membership fees. In addition, the Group subsidises the membership cost of a leader's children.

Please contact Peter Johnson for further information and to discuss in detail the requirements for the respective vacancies.

Whilst the vacancies advertised above are our immediate needs, the Group also would like to appoint additional Assistant Cub Scout Leaders to service our 45 Cub Scouts, and would make room on demand for Activity Leaders with particular skills in abseiling and snow activities to service the growing needs of our Venturer unit.

Applicants should note that any employment within the Scouting Movement is governed by various child-protection laws in NSW and that those seeking employment would be required to sign Prohibited Employment’ and Working With Children declarations as a prerequisite to any employment with the Group. In addition, applicants for uniformed positions will undergo police reference checks consistent with the policy & rules of Scouts Australia NSW Branch
