Responsibilities for Parents/Carers

Apart from bringing your children to Scouts there are several other responsibilities that all families are expected to commit to when signing the application form.  These are:

  1. Fundraising is an important part of any Community Group. You will be called upon each term to assist us with fund raising.
  2. Also from time to time we need parents to assist with various activities. It is only fair that this load be shared amongst all the families in the group so please be ready to volunteer.
  3. Your child must have a uniform and wear it according to our policy that is attached to this letter. This is not negotiable – the uniform is part of the Scouting Method, and crucial to our success.
  4. Fees need to be paid before your child is invested or receives any Group property. This is also in accordance with our policy, a copy of which is attached. Term fees need to be paid at the start of each term.
  5. Children need to be dropped off to the hall before the nominated start time and preferably 5-10 minutes early. Children arriving late disrupt the meetings.
  6. Group Committee: all families are requested to serve one 12 month term on the Group Committee during the time there child is a member of the group. The Group’s finances and other administrative matters are handled by the committee. Elections for formal positions on the committee are held annually at the AGM.

Prohibited Employment Declarations. It is a regulation under the Child Protection Act (2000) that all Adults who have direct and unsupervised contact with children fill out and sign a Prohibited Employment Declaration (PED) form. There is a Scout association version of this form. As all parents/carers will be asked to assist with various activities we need all parents to complete this form. There are two copies please fill both of them in and return them with the membership form. Our group does not allow any person who has not filled out and signed a PED form to have contact with our youth members.

Once again, welcome to Jerrabomberra Scout Group. I hope you (and of course your children) find your time with us is long and memorable - not to mention fun! Please don’t hesitate to call if you have any problems.

Uniform Policy & Fees

Uniform Policy

Wearing a uniform is part of being a Scout and not surprisingly, there are several regulations set down by NSW Branch Headquarters as to what is OK and what is not. There is a certain amount of flexibility given to Groups in some areas. In July 2004 a new style and colour uniform was introduced, the key element being the new navy shirts as pictured below:

shirts

These elements of the Scout uniform are not optional:
Scout Shirt (note each section has a different shirt)
Scarf with woggle
Scout Belt

It is preferable that members wear the approved bone coloured pants with zip off legs supplied by Snowgum. However, members may wear pants or shorts sourced elsewhere.  These pants or shorts MUST be a similar shade of bone or beige. Blue or black denim will not be allowed. Warm tops to be used in winter are also available. The only style of hat that we will accept whilst in the New Uniform is the Official Scouts Australia Blue Bucket hat.

Scouts are encouraged to have pride in their uniform; both the Cub’s and the Scout’s will earn points for their respective six/patrol by being dressed according to the above regulations. The scarf and woggle will be supplied by the Group at the time of the Childs investiture. If these are misplaced they must be replaced at the Parents/carers expense. Uniform is to be worn to and from all activities and when in public unless advised otherwise.

New style uniforms are available from www.snowgum.com.au or Snowgum at 9 Lonsdale Street Braddon ACT 2612 Phone: 02 6257 2250.

Fees Policy 2011

Fees are $90.00 per term. Term fees are to be paid on the first week of each term.

Fees are to be charged at a pro-rata rate for members who join midway through a term.

The joining fee is $20.00, new members will not be invested or given any Group property until the joining fee and the term fee has been paid. You are however welcome to come along for a few nights first to check us out before handing over the money. We do however require the forms to be filled out as soon as possible. Although we don’t mail them off to Branch Head Quarters until your child has been invested.

Group members who do not pay fees on time will be removed from the Group census and will have to pay another $20.00 joining fee if they wish to continue with the Group.

If you have a change of circumstances and have trouble paying your fees please discuss this with the Treasurer who will do his best to try and help you with a payment schedule.

The preferred method of paying fees is direct debit with the following banking details:
Westpac Bank BSB 032724
Account number 821695.    Please include child’s name.

Fees can be paid to the Treasurer Jacquie Ruge (02) 6297 9862 or Sub-treasurer assigned to your section. Leaders are unable to accept cash payment for fees and preferably should not accept any fees. However, if there is no other option on the night, IT SHOULD BE DONE BY CHEQUE, and a receipt will be issued at a later date.
