Want to Join?

Joining 1st Jerrabomberra Scout Group is easy. First, make sure you know which section your child would be going into, second, get in touch using the contact form HERE or drop by the scout hall

Can I drop my child off to try Scouts?

No, we do require you to fill in the attached form: Y1 - Application for Youth Membership (Youth). This form can also be accessed at http://www.nsw.scouts.com.au/leaders/scouts-nsw-forms. Children, accompanied by a parent or guardian, are welcome to come along for three nights as a guest. Over this time you, they and the Leaders can jointly decide whether Scouting suits.

I am already in Scouts somewhere else
Youth and Leaders who are already members of one of Australia's Scout Branches should complete the respective paperwork for transfer, and make contact with the group through the contact us section.  We will do everything within our power to accommodate existing members within the group if you move into the Jerrabomberra area.

What Happens Next?
Before your child can be invested and made a member of the scouting movement, membership and joining fees must be paid.  For Adult members joining the group, there is also the requirement to complete the Working With Vulnerable People check. For youth members once the Y1 has been submitted and the membership fees have been paid, coordinate a time with the section leader to conduct an investiture ceremony.

How much does it cost?
Our current fees are $130 per term and invoices are sent out each term. We do not invoice pro rata. There is a one-off joining fee of $80, and we are unable to invest new members until the joining fee and the first term’s fee are paid. We do however offer a discount for youth members who have a parent who is a leader, with the term fee being reduced to $75 for each youth member. Please note that cash payments will not be accepted by Section Leaders.

How do I pay?
The groups banking details can be found HERE

Where can I get a uniform?
Availability of uniforms in the Canberra area is problematic, with normally only a single retailer providing Scouts Australia uniforms.  This is currently Adventure Packed, an outdoor equipment supplier at the Majura Park shopping centre. The alternative is to purchase them online from the South Coast and Tablelands Region Scout Shop.  Postage is free, and the profits stay in the region.

What else do I need to know
Scouting is a community Organisation that delivers an inclusive, values based, age specific youth development program focused on fun and adventure. It exists to provide our youth with training and development, through the activities that has made Scouting famous. 1st Jerrabomberra Scout Group is a large Scout Group, and it is wholly run by volunteers consisting of a very dedicated group of Leaders, Committee members, and parents. It is expected that every family that joins the group will contribute in some way to the smooth and continued operation of the Scout Group, as it takes significant training and effort to develop and run these activities, and to administratively support them.

I am very busy, so I’d have difficulty helping out.
All families are different and so we try to find ways where people can help out in ways that make most sense. Our Parent Participation Program is explained on the policies page. You don’t have to sign up to anything right now and we can explain what is involved in greater detail for you to consider. You can expect that you will be asked to help out once you are a member of the scouting family though.
