Scouting Worldwide

Scouts started in England in 1907 by our founder B.P (Lord Robert Baden-Powell). Scouting started in Australian in 1908, and has grown ever since.  Scouting is active in over 146 countries around the world!

What is it?

Google will be able to provide you a wealth of information about scouting.  In essence, scouting is about creating young adults who are good citizens in the community.  This is achieved through a program of adventure based learning that is increasingly youth led as they go through the sections. Scouting in Australia consists of five youth sections (Joey Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venturer Scouts, and Rover Scouts) as well as the adult leaders, parent helpers and fellowships.

Why do it?

Scouting focusses on developing youth across a broad range of areas of personal growth.  It provide great opportunities to grow and developing in physical and social skills, spiritual and emotional awareness, intellectual capacity as well as building character.

What do we do?

Scouting employs what we call the scouting method.  This focuses on learning by doing - experiential learning. As youth members enter the older sections, they are increasingly encouraged to operate in a 'youth led, adult assisted' model

A little googling will show the while the phrases may vary a little around the world, scouting takes roughly the same form in every member country of the worldwide movement
